- Born on August 4, 1992, in the village of Chernelyv-Ruskyi, Ternopil District, Ternopil Oblast. In 2002, he completed 3 grades of the general education school in the village of Chernelyv-Ruskyi, Ternopil District, in 2007 - 9 grades of the general education school in the village of Zhovtneve (since 2016 - the village of Soborne), Ternopil District, in 2009 - the general education gymnasium named after Stepan Baley in the village of Velyki Birky, Ternopil District, and in 2013 - the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing of Ternopil National Economic University, obtaining a Bachelor's degree. In 2013, while studying at the university, he completed the military training department for reserve officers, receiving the initial officer rank of junior lieutenant. Since 2013, he studied part-time in the 5th year of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing of Ternopil National Economic University, majoring in "Accounting and Auditing." In the winter of 2013-2014, he was on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, where he was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity. In April 2014, he was mobilized as a volunteer into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in positions such as commander of a mortar platoon, commander of a 122-mm self-propelled howitzer platoon 2S1, senior officer of a self-propelled artillery battery, and commander of the control platoon of a self-propelled artillery battery of the howitzer self-propelled artillery division of the brigade artillery group of the 51st separate guards Peresopnytsia-Kharkiv Prague-Volyn order of Lenin, twice order of the Red Banner, order of Suvorov and Kutuzov mechanized brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A2331, city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Volyn Oblast). Since June 16, 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. While performing tasks, junior lieutenant Harmatiy personally led a planning group for fire damage to the enemy. The work conducted under his leadership allowed for the creation of an effective system of fire damage to the enemy and ensured reliable protection of units from sudden enemy attacks both in base camps and at checkpoints, as well as effective destruction of personnel and equipment of illegal armed formations during combat engagements. Junior lieutenant Harmatiy actively participated in practical activities to organize the fire system of checkpoints. During the leadership of subordinates in combat conditions, the officer demonstrated courage, prudence, and perseverance, which contributed to maintaining the proper moral and psychological state of the personnel. His skillful combination of reasonable initiative and impeccable executive discipline allowed for timely and quality execution of tasks for fire damage to the enemy. In July 2014, the personnel of the 51st separate mechanized brigade, while performing a combat mission, held positions near the city of Chervonopartyzansk (since 2016 - Voznesenivka), Luhansk Oblast, near the border with the Russian Federation. On July 25, 2014, during the execution of a combat mission, junior lieutenant Harmatiy, after 10 days of being surrounded and under constant shelling from Russian-terrorist groups, did not betray the state and did not retreat with 41 comrades-in-arms to the territory of the Russian Federation. During the breakthrough from the encirclement, the officer was blown up by a mine near the city of Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast. On August 1, 2014, he was buried in the cemetery of the village of Chernelyv-Ruskyi, Ternopil District. By the decree of the President of Ukraine No. 448/2016 dated October 13, 2016, for exceptional courage and heroism displayed in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath, junior lieutenant Harmatiy Volodymyr Mykhailovych was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star. In March 2015, the general education school in the village of Soborne, Ternopil District, Ternopil Oblast, was named after Volodymyr Harmatiy. On November 17, 2015, in the village of Zhovtneve (since 2016 - the village of Soborne), Ternopil District, a memorial plaque was opened on the facade of the building of the general education school (Zarichna Street, 20), where the Hero studied. On May 12, 2016, in the city of Ternopil, on the territory of the student campus of Ternopil National Economic University (Lvivska Street, 11), where Volodymyr Harmatiy studied, a memorial plaque was opened for him.Book of Remembrance for Ukraine - Ukrainian memorial
