Anatolii V. Kosik

49-year-old Sergeant Anatoliy Kosik was killed on October 25, 2023, while performing his official duties near the village of Novoprokopivka in the Zaporizhia region. The defender sustained fatal shrapnel wounds as a result of an enemy shell hitting the trench. Anatoliy was from the village of Zdomyshel in the Volyn region. He obtained a secondary specialized education. For most of his life, he worked as a quartermaster in a hospital, and then began to work abroad. He was passionate about woodworking and everything related to household matters. He was always learning something new and teaching others. On February 26, 2022, the man was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade. He held the position of a machine gunner squad member. Since May 2023, he has been carrying out combat missions in the Zaporizhia direction and participated in the counteroffensive. "My father was always compassionate and kind, he never refused to help people, he was always friendly. He never spared himself in terms of work, he always tried to do everything to provide for his family. In the first days of the full-scale invasion, without thinking, he went as a volunteer, having learned that I was at the front line. He constantly wanted to switch places with me. When he got to the front line in the Zaporizhia region, I was then transferred from there. We never met with my father. After that, I tried to return back to the front line in Zaporizhia, for the sake of the meeting, but I couldn't. On October 23, my father voluntarily offered to go to the positions with a traumatized knee to replace his comrades who had been under shelling for a very long time. On that day, October 25, as a result of a direct hit of an anti-tank grenade launcher in the trench, my father was killed," said Artem Kosik. The hero was buried in his native village. Anatoliy is survived by his wife and two sons.
