Anatolii V. Shapovalov

Shapovalov Anatoliy Viktorovych was born on July 27, 1984 in Shostka, Sumy region. After graduating from the 9th grade of secondary school No. 7, he studied at the vocational school No. 10. Later, he worked in the repair and mechanical workshop No. 27 of the Shostka Production Association "Svema", and later as an electrician in the housing and communal services. With the start of the war in Eastern Ukraine in 2014, he served in the 2nd Regiment of the Protection of Especially Important State Facilities of the National Guard of Ukraine in Shostka. In 2015, he was called up to the military unit 3022 of the National Guard of Ukraine, serving in the engineering and technical support platoon. The guardsman was an exemplary father and caring husband, with a wife, son and daughter. Since February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of its troops into the territory of Ukraine, the forces and means of the military unit 3022 of the National Guard of Ukraine, where Anatoliy Shapovalov served, were brought to full combat readiness. Performing combat missions, the personnel of the military unit 3022 partially left the permanent location and was sent to organize the service at checkpoints on the Kyiv-Chernihiv highway. On March 9, 2022, Senior Sergeant Anatoliy Shapovalov, the senior master of the 1st group of the engineering and technical support platoon, was performing a combat mission at the observation post of checkpoint No. 2 in the village of Kolychivka, Chernihiv region. After another artillery shelling of the guardsmen's positions, which lasted about an hour, his comrades found Anatoliy under the rubble with severe head injuries. After providing first aid, the guardsman was urgently evacuated. On March 11, 2022, Anatoliy Shapovalov died from the complications of his injury at the Chernihiv Regional Hospital. He was buried on March 16, 2022 in the Alley of Heroes of the cemetery in the Sadovyi district of Shostka, Sumy region. For personal courage and selfless actions in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath, Sergeant Anatoliy Viktorovych Shapovalov was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage, 3rd degree.
