- Andriy Hermanovych Kahaliak was born in 1962 in the city of Shostka, Sumy region. After finishing school, he studied at the Shostka Chemical and Technological College. He was later drafted for compulsory military service in the railway troops. After completing his military service, he worked at the Shostka State Plant "Zirka." In 2015, he was called up for military service in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine. Since February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the forces and means of military unit 3022 of the National Guard, where Andriy Kahaliak served, were brought to combat readiness "FULL." While performing combat tasks, the personnel of military unit 3022 partially left their permanent deployment location and were dispatched to organize service at checkpoints along the Kyiv – Chernihiv highway. On March 30, 2022, Senior Soldier, Senior Master of the 2nd Group of the Engineering and Technical Support Platoon of military unit 3022 of the National Guard, Andriy Kahaliak, as part of a group of servicemen, was performing a combat task to comprehensively support the positions of the established observation posts in the village of Kolychivka, Chernihiv region. At approximately 11:55, an artillery shelling of the guards' position began, as a result of which Andriy Hermanovych sustained injuries incompatible with life. A solemn farewell to the serviceman took place in the city of Shostka, Sumy region, on April 3, 2022. For personal bravery and selfless actions demonstrated in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath, Senior Soldier Andriy Hermanovych Kahaliak was posthumously awarded the Order of "For Courage" of the 3rd degree.Memory Book of the MIA System
