Andrii I. Kepenko

Kepenko Andrii Ivanovich was born on May 24, 1986 in the village of Sekun, Kovel district, Volyn region. On March 13, 2022, Senior Soldier Andrii Kepenko was drafted into military service with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine through mobilization. On January 12, 2023, the border guard, as part of the consolidated detachment "Volyn", went to the area of direct fire contact, to the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. On February 3, 2023, Andrii Kepenko arrived at the positions of the 1st Rifle Company of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. In accordance with the received order, he left with 6 comrades-in-arms to the fire position "Kharkiv", where as part of the group he held the position for three days. On February 7, 2023, in one of the buildings, Andrii Kepenko discovered enemy forces numbering up to 10 people. Taking advantage of the fact that he knew the terrain and the approaches to the building occupied by the enemy, he approached it and through the window threw hand grenades at the enemy, after which he opened fire on the occupiers. With such heroic actions, he destroyed most of the personnel who were in the building and saved his comrades-in-arms from real danger. As a result of enemy fire in response, Andrii Kepenko received fatal injuries. For personal courage and heroic actions, manifested in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath, Senior Soldier Andrii Ivanovich Kepenko was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III degree (posthumously).
