Andrii I. Zhuravel

22-year-old soldier Andriy Zhuravel was killed on October 3, 2022, during the advance of Ukrainian forces in the area of the villages of Kreshchenivka and Shevchenkivka in the Kherson region. The defender sustained fatal injuries as a result of an enemy tank shelling. Andriy was originally from Kharkiv. He obtained a profession as a car mechanic at a local vocational school. He was interested in cycling and was part of a cycling section. After his studies, he joined the army and served in the National Guard in Mariupol. He returned home in December 2021. He did not have time to find civilian work, as the war began on February 24. With the start of the full-scale war, Andriy re-enlisted, this time in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a sniper in the 17th Separate Tank Brigade named after Kostiantyn Pestushko. "Andryusha is our heavenly guardian angel," noted Ihor Zhuravel, the father of the fallen soldier. The young defender was buried in the Alley of Glory in his hometown of Kharkiv. Andriy is survived by his parents, sisters, and grandmother.
