Andrii M. Vaskiv

Serviceman Andriy Vaskiv was killed on May 9, 2024, during the evacuation of his comrades near the village of Makarivka in the Donetsk region. He was 47 years old. Andriy was from Lviv. He studied at Lyceum No. 51 named after Ivan Franko, and then entered the Lviv Technical School of Railway Transport. He served in the communications troops and later continued his career as a railway worker. In his free time, he was passionate about fishing and football. With the start of the full-scale invasion, he joined the defense of Ukraine. As part of the 53rd separate rifle battalion, he carried out combat missions first in the Kyiv region and later in the Donetsk region. "He was cheerful, honest, and extremely responsible. He diligently performed his duties. He took on great responsibility during the war, as he constantly risked his own life to save wounded comrades whom he evacuated from the battlefield," his colleagues from Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) said. The soldier was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in his hometown. Andriy is survived by his wife and son.
