- Lieutenant Colonel Andrii Halchus was killed in action on March 2, 2022. He turned 39 in February. Andrii was born in Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region. After finishing school, he served in the army and decided to continue his life in it. He obtained the profession of a military translator at the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. He then went from being an instructor for learning a foreign language in a military unit to the head of the linguistic research department at his alma mater, Shevchenko University. During this period of career growth, he managed to work as a translator for the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and his deputies. Lieutenant Colonel Halchus made a significant contribution to the development of linguistics in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and is the author of the first military terms. His last position was as the head of the linguistic research department of the scientific research center of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. This center provides oral and written translations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Close friends and colleagues remember Andrii as a purposeful, brave, serious officer who was at the same time a good, cheerful, and intelligent person. "In our memory, Andrii will remain a person of the highest level of professionalism and integrity. An officer with the best qualities that can be imagined. Even in peacetime, he always stood out for being purposeful, motivated, and very serious. This is a person who, despite his age, made an impression of exceptional life experience and conscientious attitude towards work. Andrii was a very decent person and had all the qualities that characterize the officer profession. Eternal Glory to the Hero!" said former department and faculty head of military translation, former head of the Military Institute, Major General Viktor Balabin, to journalists. Andrii is survived by his wife and two sons. At the end of July 2022, one of the streets in Bila Tserkva was renamed in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Andrii Halchus.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
