Andrii O. Horbatenko

The 20-year-old paratrooper Andriy Horbatenko was killed in action on February 25, 2022, during the defense of Kherson region. In the area of Shylova Balka, an enemy missile hit the Ukrainian defenders' BTR, in which the young man was located. Andriy was born in Borislav, Lviv region. He stu at the local School No. 3. Later, he graduated from the Borislav Professional and Technical College, where he obtained the specialties of cook, waiter, and bartender. Then the young man decided to connect his life with the military, so he went to serve under contract in the airborne assault troops. He served in the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade. At the time of the full-scale Russian invasion, Andriy, along with his comrades, continued to perform his official duties and defend Ukraine from the invaders. "What a flower of the nation is perishing! Sincere condolences and deep bow to the relatives! Eternal, bright memory and respect to the HERO. So young, handsome, with a sincere heart and a bright smile, who had everything to live for, whose whole life was ahead of him. Horror! What the war has done!" wrote the native of the deceased, Stepania. The young warrior was buried in his hometown. Andriy is survived by his parents and two sisters. Soldier Andriy Horbatenko was posthumously awarded the Order of "Courage" III degree.
