Andrii R. Hankevych (Khenk)

Combat medic Andriy Hankievych (call sign Henk) was killed in action on July 5, 2022, in a battle with Russian occupiers in the Kharkiv region. The defender was 45 years old. Andriy was born in the city of Sambir, Lviv region. He graduated from the National Forestry University. He was a member of the National Scout Organization of Ukraine "Plast", co-founder of the 61st kurin of young men named after O. Tysovsky. During the preparation for the European Football Championship in 2012, he worked at the State Enterprise "Directorate for Capital Construction and Reconstruction of Donetsk International Airport". He was awarded an honorary certificate by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for his personal contribution to the preparation of infrastructure facilities for the final part of the championship. In 2014, he performed the duties of the airport director. Founder and director of LLC "Engineering and Design". He loved volleyball and traveling. With the start of the full-scale invasion, Andriy stood up to defend Ukraine against Russian occupiers. His words were: "Who, if not me". He served in the ranks of the 125th Separate Brigade of Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a combat medic. "My heart with you... I know you're in heaven now, because you've already been to hell. I don't know how I'll live on, but I promise you that I'll be strong, the way you always thought I was, for you and our children... Pain above the sky...", wrote his wife Oksana. The defender was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. At home, Andriy's wife and four children were waiting for him. Posthumously, soldier Andriy Hankievych was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.
