Andrii V. Diachenko (Morfei)

Soldier Andrii Diachenko (call sign Morpheus) was killed on January 16, 2023, in a battle for the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. The warrior covered his comrade during the enemy shelling and received a fatal shrapnel wound to the carotid artery. Exactly a month before this, the defender turned 38 years old. Andrii was born and lived in the village of Krasylivka, Kyiv region. He stuwas killed at the local school. Then he obtained the profession of an agronomist at the vocational school in the village of Bobryk. He worked as a master of repair work in apartments. In the first days of the full-scale war, the man joined the ranks of the local volunteer formation of the territorial community and took part in the liberation of his native Kyiv region. Later, together with his comrades, he became a serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine and went to the Bakhmut area. He served in the "Freedom" battalion of the 4th Brigade of Special Purpose named after Sergeant Serhii Mykhalchuk, Hero of Ukraine. "Andrii bravely and with honor carried out all the tasks, constantly mastered new types of weapons and tactics of military actions, was an example of courage and cold mind. Always cheerful and energetic, and these traits of his were transmitted to his comrades-in-arms. Even in the most difficult conditions, he always had a place for humor and did not succumb to panic. He repeatedly provided first aid to wounded comrades-in-arms. He was the best brother, loved by the whole family. The children are incredibly saddened by the loss of their father," wrote the sister of the fallen Viktoriia Samoilenko. Andrii was buried in his native village. At home, his wife Alla, daughter Tamara, son Yaroslav, relatives, and friends were waiting for him. The children were 13 and 5 years old at the time of their father's death.
