Andrii V. Savko (Niu-York)

21-year-old soldier Andrii Savko (call sign New York) was killed on September 23, 2023 in the area of the village of Klishchiyivka, Donetsk region. During the performance of a combat mission, he came under artillery fire and was killed from his injuries. Andrii was born in the village of Panasivka, Ternopil region. He studied at the local school. Later, he enrolled in a vocational school, but did not complete it. He worked in a hospital in the city of Skalat. He was an avid fisherman. He played on the local volleyball team. In April 2023, he voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the flamethrower platoon of the radiation, chemical, and biological defense company of the 80th separate air assault brigade. "This is the brother of my husband and the godfather of our daughter. Andrii was cheerful, always ready to help, the soul of the company, and an extraordinarily kind person," said his relative Anna. "Andrii bravely made the decision and went to defend our future wealth, went to defend us, our families, our state! At a very young age, the soldier took part in a major battle, in the liberation of settlements in the Bakhmut district... Heroes do not die, they will live in the hearts of relatives, fellow villagers, friends and all who knew them!" added the community. The hero was buried in his native village. Andrii is survived by his parents, brother, sister and other relatives.
