Biography
While being part of the military operational reserve of the regiment, in June 2014, during the defense of the building of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office from pro-Russian militants, Major Velichko sustained a serious injury to his arm and remained in treatment in Donetsk at the time of the breakthrough of the unit from encirclement and its exit towards Mariupol. He was captured by militants of the illegal armed formation Bezler and was held captive in the city of Horlivka. When he was released from captivity, he had no documents with him. On July 17, 2014, he reached the city of Krasnohorivka and informed his sister about himself, using the phone of a local resident. This same citizen pointed him the way to the village of Pisky through the town of Staromykhailivka when Velichko's mother and two acquaintances arrived in a black Hyundai Elantra. Around 4:00 PM that same day, citizens Los, Skorynin, and Velichko's mother and son left Krasnohorivka, but they disappeared without a trace on the way, not reaching the checkpoint in Pisky. The shot-up and burned Hyundai car, similar to the one the missing were traveling in, was later found by their relatives near the village of Lozove in the Yasynuvata district of Donetsk region.Military service
