Artem M. Kokhanyi

Born on January 8, 1983, in the city of Sumy. In 2000, he graduated from specialized school No. 25 in Sumy. Since 2000, he served in the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He graduated with honors from the Military Institute of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (now - National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, city of Kharkiv). After graduation, he was assigned to continue his service at the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He served in various positions in the Lviv (military unit 2144, city of Lviv), Chernivtsi (military unit 2195, city of Chernivtsi), and Chop (military unit 1493, city of Chop, Zakarpattia region) border detachments. His last position was Deputy Commander for Material and Technical Support of the Mukachevo Operational Combat Command of the Mukachevo Border Detachment of the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (military unit 2142, city of Mukachevo, Zakarpattia region). Since April 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On November 14, 2014, on Mayakovsky Avenue in the city of Kurakhove, Marinka district of Donetsk region, Major Kohany, trying to stop the illegal actions of two men who wanted to take a car from a local taxi driver, received gunshot wounds incompatible with life. On November 16, 2014, he was buried in the Alley of Honorary Citizens of the Central Cemetery in the city of Sumy. On September 11, 2015, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of specialized school No. 25 (80 Dekabristiv Street) in the city of Sumy, honoring graduates who died during the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, among whom is the name Artem Kohany.
