Artem O. Chumak (Kaban)

29-year-old junior sergeant Artem Chumak (call sign Kaban) was killed on June 10, 2023 in a battle with the occupiers near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. During enemy mortar shelling, he sustained severe injuries - death was instantaneous. Artem was from the village of Hornostaivka, Kherson region. He studied at the local school. Then he obtained the profession of a builder at a vocational school in the city of Nova Kakhovka. In 2014-2017, he participated in the ATO, then returned to peaceful life. He was engaged in entrepreneurial activity together with his father and brother. In 2019, he got married, and later the couple had a daughter. During the full-scale war, the man again took up the defense of his country from the enemy. He served in the 77th separate air assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the commander of a surface-to-air missile platoon. "He was always sincere in his intentions, devoted to his country, worthy of all the warm words that exist, he never had disputes in his life, he always found compromises. He was a gentle dad for his daughter, who remembers him smiling and kind," said the wife of the deceased Olga. The paratrooper was buried in the Alley of Glory of the Matviyivske cemetery in Mykolaiv. Artem is survived by his parents, wife, daughter, other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
