Artem Yu. Makhortov

Airborne soldier Artem Makhortov was killed on August 26, 2023 near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhia region. While carrying out a combat mission, he came under enemy mortar fire. The warrior was 35 years old. Artem was born in the town of Hirske, Luhansk region. He received his education in the city of Zolote. He graduated from the 9th grade of school No. 16. He obtained the profession of a cook-pastry chef at a vocational school. Since 2014, he had been living in the Odesa region. There he met his love and got married. In civilian life, he worked as a miner, cook, and security guard. He loved to draw and get tattoos. In 2023, the man received a summons and later joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He underwent training in Ukraine and Germany, and then, as part of the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade, he went to the front line. Artem held the position of commander of the anti-tank unit. Together with the unit, he fought in the Donetsk region. "Artem was a very cheerful and positive person, the soul of the company. He was a true patriot of his country and very dreamed of liberating his native town of Hirske and living in a peaceful Ukraine," said the wife of the fallen warrior, Hanna. The airborne soldier was buried in the village of Novomykolaivka, Odesa region, where he lived with his family. Artem left behind his parents, wife, and daughter. Posthumously, soldier Artem Makhortov was awarded the Order of Courage, 3rd degree.
