Artur Yu. Saveliev (Hamp)

A 21-year-old defender of Mariupol, Artur Savelyev (call sign Hump), was killed in action on March 2, 2022, during the defense of the city from Russian occupiers. Artur was born and lived his entire life in Odesa. He stu at the Odesa National Academy of Food Technologies in the specialty of "Hotel and Restaurant Business". He was a wise man, who read a lot. He was particularly interested in history, scientific literature, and philosophy. He devoted his free time to his friends, company, where he enjoyed playing the guitar. He was also involved in sports. The young man had an active civic stance. Later, he joined the ranks of the "Azov" regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was a senior machine gunner in the grenade launcher unit. Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, Hump, together with his unit, defended the city of Mariupol in Donetsk. "Artur was a very bright person, kind, open. With a good sense of humor, like a real Odesa citizen. An incredibly interesting conversationalist. When you came to him for advice, you understood that you would definitely find an answer in his words. The soul of the company - such a feeling that he attracted people with his charisma. But most importantly - he was a true patriot of his country! He believed and did everything so that it would be independent and flourishing. And he gave the most valuable thing for it - his life," said his mother Diana. The location of the defender's body is still unknown. His mother gave DNA, is waiting for the results, and hopes very much that she will be able to bury her hero with dignity. Artur is survived by his parents, younger sister, and fiancée. Senior Soldier Artur Savelyev was posthumously awarded the Order of "Courage" III degree.
