Bohdan I. Holubenko (Boston)

Sergeant Bohdan Holubenko (call sign Boston) was killed on September 14, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the village of Andriivka in the Donetsk region. The defender was forever 27 years old. Bohdan was born in the village of Pashkivka, Kyiv region. He lived in the town of Makariv. From a young age, he dreamed of becoming a soldier. He was engaged in hockey, taekwondo, and boxing. He loved to ride a motorcycle. After completing secondary education, in May 2016, he was drafted into the military service in military unit A2777. He participated in the military parade for the 25th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, for which he received an award. In September 2016, the young man signed a contract for service with the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From then until 2019, he took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation. On February 24, 2022, Bohdan took up arms again. He defended Makariv and the Kyiv region. After the enemy's retreat from the capital, he continued to serve in the guard company of the military registration and enlistment office. On June 1, 2023, he was transferred to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. There he took the position of platoon commander, vehicle commander, and went to the front line. For his service, Bohdan received the awards "For the Defense of the Homeland. Makariv," "Golden Cross," "Cross of the Brave," and the Order of Courage III degree (posthumously). "He was my only weakness. Something I couldn't give up, loved so much. He was the only one I wanted to keep for myself, take away from the whole world, the only one I wanted to go to, leaving the whole world behind... He performed his duty with honor and dignity, faithful to his comrades-in-arms and the Motherland until his last breath. And even in the last minutes of his life, understanding that he would never return home, he thought and worried about his comrades. My beloved is forever in my heart..." - shared the fallen defender's beloved Marina. The hero was buried in his native village. Bohdan is survived by his loving family, girlfriend, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
