Bohdan V. Hlushchenko (Haspacho)

Staff Sergeant Bohdan Hlushchenko (call sign Gazpacho) was killed on April 15, 2022, while defending Mariupol. When a group of Ukrainian defenders was breaking through from the left bank of the city to the Azovstal plant, the soldier sustained fatal injuries. He turned 23 in March. Bohdan was from Kyiv. He stuwas killed at the Kyiv Vocational College of Restaurant Management of NUHT and mastered the culinary profession. He loved his specialty and had a talent for it. He worked in France for some time. He was involved in sports, particularly Muay Thai, wrestling, and rugby. When the full-scale war began, the young man returned to his homeland to defend it. He joined the ranks of the 2nd Battalion of the Separate Special Purpose Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine "Azov." He participated in the defense of the city of Mariupol. "He did not broadcast this on social media, did not seek honors, did not play the hero. His acquaintances, after months of heavy fighting in the city of Mariupol, did not even know he was there. He persuaded the medical staff to let him join the National Guard, took pride in it quietly, did not shout about it. When he was in the very hell of battle, his thoughts were only about his loved ones, hoping they were all right. I will not forget the request to take care of your mother, even though no one can comfort her anymore. Your father and brother, who took up arms on the first day, your unyielding mother — all this is about a family of steel," wrote a close friend of the fallen warrior, Yuriy. "We remember Bohdan as a bright, kind person, a wonderful friend... Bohdan became a very good, talented chef, worked in France, but returned home and went to defend his native land. We bow our heads in sorrow. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!" — noted on the website of the Kyiv college. The hero was buried in a military cemetery in Kyiv. Bohdan is survived by his parents, brother, friends, and comrades.
