Killed in action on May 28, 2019, from a shrapnel wound received during a search by a group of fighters for a downed UAV near the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region. His body remained on the battlefield, as there was no possibility to evacuate it under heavy mortar fire; later, Boris's body was evacuated by militants to the temporarily occupied territory. After negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE monitoring mission, the soldier's body was handed over to the Ukrainian side on May 31.
