- The platoon commander Dmytro Yasenko was killed in action on July 9, 2022, in battles for Luhansk Oblast. In two weeks, the officer was to turn 31 years old. Dmytro was from Chernivtsi Oblast. He graduated from the Kyiv Military Lyceum named after Ivan Bohun. Since 2014, he has been fighting in the ATO, was wounded, and demobilized. Comrades remember him as a brave and courageous warrior, a fair commander and a very good person. A week before the full-scale invasion, Dmytro returned to the war again. But now for the last time. He always went first. Personally selected and checked positions, had plan B, knew the troops nearby and whether they could be relied upon. He personally took out 300s and 200s, provided us with supplies, and if necessary, sat in the bushes with a grenade launcher, put a tourniquet on the wounded or called in BTR fire on an enemy sniper. He was fair. He thought freely. We changed tactics, analyzed mistakes, came up with something new. He valued the lives of soldiers. We knew he wouldn't let people be laid on the altar of vainglory. When other units suffered unjustified losses, liberating one settlement in the south, our unit carried out the tasks set without losses. Dmytro had a good heart. His smile instantly neutralized any offense, and terribly funny jokes pumped up the press no worse than a gym, wrote subordinate and comrade-in-arms Roman Zakhodniy. Irreparable loss for Ukraine. You were real, friend. Eight years defending Ukraine... Your battle on earth is over, but I'm sure you'll be defending your native Ukraine from heaven, wrote volunteer Alla Musteatsa. In April 2022, Captain Dmytro Yasenko was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree. The defender was buried in Chernivtsi. Dmytro left behind a wife and a small son.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
