Dmytro D. Batrak

Dmytro Denysovych Batrak was born on May 5, 2000, in the city of Zaporizhzhia. After graduating from the 9th grade of the educational complex "Zaporizhska Sich" in 2015, he enrolled in the Zaporizhia Regional Lyceum "Zakhysnyk" with enhanced military-sports training. At that time, his grandfather, Viktor Batrak, was participating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Eastern Ukraine, so the young man decided to devote himself to military affairs. He had been practicing Ukrainian hand-to-hand combat "Spas" - a full-contact martial art - since his school days. He studied at the Odesa Academy of Land Forces, which he graduated in the fall of 2021. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he was at the forefront in the city of Sumy. Then he found himself in the Zaporizhia region. He held the position of commander of the 3rd airborne assault platoon of the 1st airborne assault company in military unit A 1493 (5th battalion tactical group) of the 81st separate airmobile brigade. He was killed on May 6, 2022, while repelling the attack of the enemy who tried to capture the village of Malinivka, near the city of Hulyaipole in the Pologivskyi district of the Zaporizhia region. The farewell ceremony took place on May 10, 2022, in Zaporizhia. The funeral service was held in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Lieutenant Dmytro Batrak was buried with military honors in the Zaporizhia cemetery of St. Nicholas.
