Dmytro D. Yakubovskyi (Kuba starshyi)

Senior soldier Dmytro Yakubovskyi (call sign Cuba-Senior) was killed in action on July 15, 2022, while performing a combat mission in the area of the village of Spirne in Donetsk region. The defender received fatal injuries during an enemy tank shelling. In August, the fighter would have turned 29 years old. Dmytro was born in the village of Panka, Chernivtsi region. He graduated from the Storozhynets Forestry College with a degree in "Forestry and Forestry". He worked at various enterprises and abroad. In his free time, he loved to fish, travel through forests, mountains, and collect mushrooms. Since 2019, the man has been serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine under contract. He was a machine gunner of the 109th battalion of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade. He performed combat missions in the area of the Joint Forces Operation. During the full-scale war, together with his comrades, he continued to defend his native country from the occupiers. "My brother was extremely kind and sensitive. He always came to the aid of those who needed it. For the last 3 years of his life, he devoted himself to the army and resistance to the RF troops. He had considerable combat experience, actively participated in the JFO, had the status of UBD. In combat, he clearly knew his task, never retreated and held our positions, because he knew that the lives of other comrades who held neighboring positions depended on him! I regret that I couldn't save him, although I was nearby all this time, supporting him and other comrades with mortar fire, but now it's only possible to talk about it... It's a pity that this unfair and inhuman war takes the best," said Mykhailo Yakubovskyi. "He was an extraordinary person. No matter how hard it was, he always smiled and tried to make me laugh. He performed combat missions courageously, boldly went into battle, always stayed with his comrades. He believed that everything would be okay!", added the deceased's beloved Iryna Melnyk. The fighter was buried in his native village. Dmytro left behind his parents, younger brother and sister, girlfriend, other relatives, friends and comrades. Posthumously, Senior Soldier Dmytro Yakubovskyi was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.
