Dmytro O. Novik

Senior soldier Dmytro Novyk was killed on March 3, 2023 in a battle with the occupiers near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. The fighter's life was cut short near the village of Ivanivske during enemy artillery shelling. In January, the defender turned 28 years old. Dmytro was from the village of Zamhlai, Chernihiv region. He graduated from 9 grades of the local school. In 2013, he obtained the profession of a locksmith and tractor operator-mechanic at the Zamhlai Agrarian Vocational School. He served his military service. During the full-scale Russian invasion, Dmytro was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought as part of the 2nd battalion of the 5th separate assault brigade. He was a driver-mechanic. "Even at the moment of the terrible shelling, he tried to help the friendly unit. That's why he didn't have time to save himself, because he thought more about all of us, and then about himself! A person of boundless sincerity and courage! Dmytro was the driver-mechanic of the M-113 armored vehicle. I and several of my comrades-in-arms are those who evacuated him. But Dmytro's injuries were incompatible with life! Rest in peace, brother! Glory forever to Dmytro Novyk!!!" wrote his comrade Oleksandr Kindrat. "Dmytro left behind a mother, six younger brothers and sisters. Dmytro was a good friend, a decent person and a true patriot of Ukraine. Eternal memory to the heroes! Rest in peace, brother!" wrote his friend Oleh Volodarskyy. "For his family, fellow villagers, native school, friends, he remained a Warrior of Light, who to the last breath showed steadfastness, courage, love for his native land and rose to the Heavenly Cohort of Heroes for the sake of the victorious peace and prosperity of Ukraine. He was a loving grandson, son, brother, faithful comrade, kind and hardworking, always ready to help. This is how he remained in our memory, hearts and thoughts... Eternal memory, respect and boundless gratitude to the defender of Ukraine, the Patriot, the Zamhlai resident Dmytro Novyk!" wrote on the page of the Zamhlai Lyceum. The warrior was buried in his native village. Dmytro left behind his mother, brothers and sisters.
