Dmytro O. Smyk (Dimka)

Senior soldier Dmytro Smyk was killed on August 31, 2022 in the area of the village of Lyubomirivka in the Mykolaiv region. While performing his duties, he received fatal injuries during a massive artillery bombardment. The defender was 20 years old. Dmytro Smyk was from the city of Sarny in the Rivne region. He stu at school No. 2 until the 9th grade. Then he entered the Olevsk Vocational Lyceum, where he obtained the profession of a carpenter. At the age of 18, he went on a contract service to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On March 1, 2021, he took the military oath of allegiance to the people of Ukraine. The young man served in the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo. He participated in the Joint Forces Operation. During the full-scale invasion, he held the position of senior rifleman. He fought on the hot fronts of the front. For his service, Dmytro was awarded the medal "Veteran of War", the Order of the Cross of the Hero (posthumously) and the Order of Courage of the III degree (posthumously). "My brother was a kind and sensitive person, he was always cheerful. He was a brave warrior, a true Hero of his country. I miss him very much, he will forever remain in my heart. He bravely fought for peace and freedom for all of us. Glory to you, brother, and deep bow," wrote Kateryna Klochko. The hero was buried in his hometown. Dmytro is survived by his mother Olena, father Oleksandr, brothers Nazar and Denys, as well as other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
