Dmytro R. Rohozhuk (Zhuk)

23-year-old paratrooper Dmytro Rohozhuk (call sign Zhuk) was killed on March 26, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Kam'yanka in the Kharkiv region. He was considered missing since then. Only in December 2022 was his body identified. Dmytro was born in the city of Berezan, Kyiv region. He graduated from the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine. Since 2020, he had been serving under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was selected for international training in Hungary, where he represented Ukraine and learned from the experience of Americans. After returning, he was sent to leadership courses, where he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He constantly improved his professional skills at training grounds. In September 2021, he participated in the multinational exercise "Rapid Trident-2021", where he performed parachute jumps from the American C-130 aircraft. He was awarded a honorary distinction for these exercises. In November 2021, Dmytro was sent on a mission to the Joint Forces Operation area. In January 2022, he was selected for military training in the Czech Republic, where he mastered new weapons. On February 14, 2022, he returned to the Joint Forces Operation area and passed on the acquired skills to his comrades. He fought as part of the 13th battalion of the 95th separate airmobile brigade, holding the position of a squad commander. "Dima met the war on the zero positions in New York, Donetsk region. In the first days as part of the 13th Separate Airmobile Battalion, he entered Horlivka, which had been occupied since 2014. Dima, together with his comrades, destroyed the enemy and took them prisoner. The completely occupied village of Kam'yanka in the Izyum district of the Kharkiv region was Dima's 19th assault. Having completed one of the most difficult combat missions, the squad did not return from there. Since March 26, 2022, the life of the family has turned into a search for Dmytro and his comrades. Only after a difficult 9 months, the body of the fallen hero was found," said the mother of the deceased, Valentyna. Dmytro was buried in the "Zhovtneve" cemetery in his hometown. At home, he was awaited by his mother and younger sister. In April 2023, Junior Sergeant Dmytro Rohozhuk was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
