- Soldier Dmytro Mahalias (call sign Bashkir) was killed during leave on March 23, 2023 in Uzhhorod. The warrior was 23 years old. Dmytro was born in the village of Kelmentsi, Chernivtsi region. He studied at the local school. Then he graduated from the Faculty of History of Uzhhorod National University, received a master's degree in "American Studies". From the 2nd year, he also worked in parallel at the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life. Then he went abroad to work. When the full-scale war began, he was in Slovakia and immediately decided to return home to defend the Motherland. Eventually, Dmytro became a fighter of the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of a machine gunner in the 105th battalion. He fought in the Mykolaiv, Kherson and Donetsk regions. He was wounded multiple times and had many concussions, but continued to bravely defend his native country. "Dmytro was a very bright and kind person, a true patriot. He voluntarily went to the front, having many health problems. Despite everything, he was a true and faithful son of his Motherland. He returned from abroad and went to fight at a time when others were fleeing the country. It's very sad that his life ended so suddenly. Yes, he was killed not in combat. But he fought for a year in the hottest areas, and his contribution to the defense of the state cannot be underestimated. For us and all those who knew him, he will forever remain a hero!" - said his older sister Khrystyna. The military was buried in his native village. Dmytro is survived by his father, sister, nephews, grandmothers and grandfather.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
