- Born on August 2, 1972, in the city of Tataburnari, Odesa region. In childhood, he moved with his parents to the village of Krymske in the Novoaydar district of Voroshilovgrad (now Luhansk) region. He graduated from the local high school in Krymske. He worked as a combine harvester assistant and driver at a local state farm. In November 1990, he was drafted for compulsory military service. He underwent military training in a training unit. He served as a squad commander and deputy platoon commander in the 48th motorized rifle division of the USSR State Security Committee (from August 1991 - as part of the troops of the Kyiv Military District, from March 1992 - as part of the National Guard of Ukraine, from August 1992 - the 6th division of the National Guard of Ukraine - military unit 2280, in the village of Bashkirivka, Chuhuiv district, Kharkiv region). In 1992, during the Transnistrian military conflict, he served on the border with Moldova, participating in the operation to secure the Transnistrian section of the state border. At the end of 1992, Senior Sergeant H.D. Khitrenko was demobilized. From April 1993, he served in the internal affairs bodies. From April 1993, he worked as an assistant to the district police inspector of the Slovianoserbsk district police department (Luhansk region). In 1998, he graduated from the Stakhanov Mining Technical School (Luhansk region). From 1998, he worked as a district police inspector in the Slovianoserbsk district police department. His last position was assistant chief - operational duty officer of the Slovianoserbsk district department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Luhansk region. Since November 2010, Major of Police H.D. Khitrenko has been retired. He lived in the village of Krymske in the Novoaydar district of Luhansk region. He was the founder and head of the local public formation for maintaining public order. He was elected twice as a deputy of the Krymske village council. On August 29, 2014, Russian Cossacks from the "Great Don Army" group, after capturing the village of Krymske, carried out reprisals against local residents. For his patriotic stance, Hennadiy Khitrenko was shot by the occupiers with an automatic weapon in the yard of his own house.
