Hennadii O. Borodenko (Diadia Hena)

Sergeant Gennady Borodenko (call sign Uncle Gena) was killed on March 26, 2022 during the defense of Mariupol, Donetsk region. His life was cut short by a hostile air strike. The defender was 51 years old. Gennady was born and lived in Mariupol. He obtained secondary specialized education. He dedicated most of his life to service in the National Guard of Ukraine. Since 2014, he has participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation. In his free time, he loved to cook and travel around the country. During the full-scale invasion, the man served in military unit 3057 of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was the head of the escort platoon guard. Since February 24, 2022, together with his comrades-in-arms, he defended his native city from the occupiers. "My father was a courageous, loving man and dad. He always said: 'Who, if not us? We must, we are strong, we are strong-willed!' " - said Anna Agafonova. Gennady was buried at the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv. He is survived by his mother, wife, daughter and two grandchildren. The military man was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
