Hryhorii M. Karpenko

Soldier Grigory Karpenco was killed in action on March 7, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the town of Volnovakha in Donetsk region. The life of the 43-year-old warrior was cut short by a bullet from an enemy sniper. Grigory was born in the village of Lyubimivka, Kherson region. He graduated from Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University. He worked as a land surveyor, state registrar, and economist. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the man defended Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a gunner in the 21st Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion "Sarmat" of the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. "He was a cheerful and sincere person, joking a lot. As a child, we did a lot of silly things, made up songs about each other, played computer and video games. He was our dealer of new music in the pre-internet era. His contribution as an uncle was invaluable to me and my brother... Then, after his death, I was dealing with the identification of my uncle's body. Because the whole family, except for me, was in the combat zone in Kherson region. The last time I had contact with my uncle was on February 23, 2022, he wrote that he couldn't say exactly where he was and that the situation was becoming increasingly tense, but despite everything, they were holding the line. We agreed to communicate more often. But my last message on March 4, 2022, remained unread forever. Eternal glory to you, warrior!" said the deceased's niece, Tetiana. The serviceman was buried at the Kraysnopil Cemetery in Dnipro. Grigory is survived by his wife and two children.
