Ihor A. Kovalchuk (Shved)

Senior soldier Ihor Kovalchuk (call sign Swede) was killed on May 28, 2023 during a hostile missile attack in the area of the village of Stoyanka in the Kyiv region. The warrior was 50 years old. Ihor was born in Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region. After school, he graduated from SPTU-9 in his hometown. Later, he settled with his family in Kyiv. He worked as a long-distance truck driver abroad. In his free time, he loved to relax in nature and go fishing. In 2014-2016, he participated in the ATO in the Donetsk region. With the start of the full-scale invasion, the man took up arms again and stood up to defend Ukraine from the occupiers. He served in the reconnaissance of the 20th separate special forces battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a senior driver. He took part in the defense of Kyiv and the region, for which he was awarded a distinction. "Beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, son. Ihor is always with us..." said the wife of the fallen Olena. The defender was buried in Kyiv. At home, he was awaited by his mother, wife, daughter and grandson.
