Ihor M. Shpek

Sergeant Igor Shpek (call sign Zhuk) died on July 30, 2024 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Zhelanne in the Donetsk region. The defender was 56 years old. Igor was born in the village of Drozdovychi in the Lviv region. He lived in Lviv. He had a secondary specialized education, which he obtained at Lviv Vocational School No. 59. He received the qualification of a master in the repair and maintenance of radio and television equipment. He was passionate about football and cycling. He joined the defense of the Motherland as part of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura". He held the position of operator of the 2nd platoon of the 3rd company of the 1st battalion. "Igor was a positive person, a person with a big loving heart! He had the true gene of a Ukrainian patriot: 'If not me, then who?' Incredibly kind, bright, highly moral, caring, cheerful, very hardworking, fair, able to joke. A wonderful father, a loving husband, a wonderful brother, a good friend, a comrade. Always ready to help. He was constantly developing, learning a lot, because the technology was changing and he needed to improve himself," said the hero's wife Iryna. The defender was buried in the Field of Honorary Burials of the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. Igor is survived by his wife, son, and sister.
