Ihor O. Shaulskyi (Lys)

27-year-old senior soldier Ihor Shaulskyi (call sign Fox) was killed on September 8, 2022, in battles in the Kherson region. Ihor was born in the village of Vasylivka, Odesa region. He graduated from the Odesa Maritime Vocational College of the Maritime and Fishing Fleet and obtained the profession of a navigator. However, this profession was not to his liking. Therefore, Ihor became a hookah master and was quite well-known not only in Odesa, where he lived, but also throughout Ukraine. He participated in hookah exhibitions and events, including at the international level. In 2018-2020, he served in the military. He also acquired an additional profession in the IT field and had big plans for life. After the start of the full-scale war, Ihor went to serve as a gunner in the 35th separate marine brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyy. "Ihor was an extraordinary person, very kind and intelligent. He adored Rubik's cubes of various complexity and modifications, solving them in less than a minute. He had excellent musical taste, was a very hardworking, talented person. Cultured, reliable, responsible. How he laughed and joked... What a thirst for life he had. Such open and fantastic people are very rare. He was always a hero. When the war started, he took up arms instead of hookahs and on his own initiative went to defend Ukraine, like a real man. A hero with a capital letter," said his friend and colleague Marharyta. The defender was buried in Odesa. Ihor is survived by an aunt and an 8-year-old sister.
