- Major Ihor Havryliuk (call sign Ingvar) was killed on July 13, 2022, in a battle with the occupiers near the village of Dementiivka in the Kharkiv region. The officer was 58 years old. Ihor was born and lived in Kyiv. He graduated from the National Aviation University there. From 1984 to 1986, he served his mandatory military service in the communication troops. He then served for over 20 years in the radio counterintelligence units of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). He was retired with the rank of major. He loved reading, especially history books. He played chess excellently and had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed radio and photography. With his own hands, he created a fairy tale in an old "cottage-dacha," where he built, as he called it, an "altar of madness." He did everything perfectly and beautifully. On the first day of the full-scale war, February 24, 2022, Ihor received a weapon and was on duty at checkpoints at the entrance to Kyiv. Later, he became a supervisor and checked the order of service among his subordinates. "At the end of February, after the attack by the terrorist country, there were strong frosts, which were intensified by the wind. During inspections and shifts, Ingvar offered everyone a cup of coffee, which he brewed himself and carried with him. Ingvar will forever remain in my memory as a person with an exceptional sense of humor. He always had a joke or a funny story ready," recalls comrade Shaman. "In that moment when the sirens wailed, there was a biting cold, sporadic gunfire erupted, and everyone was waiting for enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, a few sips of aromatic hot coffee were perceived as the peak of pleasure, a gift from higher powers. I will never forget those moments," shares comrade Sergeant. While forming the 242nd battalion of the 241st separate territorial defense brigade, Ingvar selected people for command positions. He was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff for mobilization work. In the summer, their unit was sent to defend the Kharkiv region, where Ihor fought his last battle. "On July 12, 2022, Ingvar arrived at the KSP in Derhachi. We hugged, and he said, 'I have great coffee, we'll drink it tomorrow.' It was around 11:00 PM. And in the morning of July 13, we learned that he was severely wounded and was not in contact. When we arrived to pick him up, Ingvar was lying face down with a tourniquet on his arm. When he was turned over with the help of a 'grappling hook,' it turned out that there was a grenade and a personal TT pistol under his body. Even wounded, he was ready to fight and did not intend to surrender," recounts Shaman. "He was a very kind and caring person, worried about his subordinates, and took care of them. Many fighters from other battalions knew and respected him. So, the leaders (the commander, the chief of staff) of the 242nd battalion arrived at the brigade, and Ingvar was in the car with them. The standard procedure for providing and checking documents was in place. And then one of the fighters recognized Ingvar: 'Oh, they are with Ingvar! Pass through!' After the war, he invited everyone to his dacha for his homemade whiskey, which he learned to make from a special recipe. He was a gourmet. That is how he will remain in our memory," said comrade Vadymych. The officer was buried in his native Kyiv. At home, his mother, brother, wife, and son were waiting for Ihor. Posthumously, Major Ihor Havryliuk was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
