Illia V. Shamritskyi

Sailor Ilya Shamritskiy was killed in action on April 10, 2022, during the defense of Mariupol in the Donetsk region. His life was cut short by an enemy airstrike. The warrior was forever 21 years old. Ilya was born in the city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi in the Volyn region. He stu at the Volodymyr-Volynskyi Pedagogical College named after A. Yu. Krymsky. In 2021, he signed a contract with the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 1st Battalion of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade. He held the position of mechanic-driver of an armored personnel carrier. The young man defended Ukraine from the first hours of the full-scale invasion. He saved more than one serviceman. "My brother was everything to me. He was a very bright, optimistic, and sensible person. He was a brave warrior, never afraid to carry out combat orders, and in moments when the lives of his comrades depended on him, he did everything to save them. Ilya could cheer people up with his smile even in the hardest times. He supported the morale of his comrades until the end and remained loyal to the Marine Corps and Ukraine, giving his life for his family and for Ukrainians. Live your life with honor and dignity so that our heroes, who defended your sleep, can be proud of you. We bear the responsibility for our country!" wrote the sister of the fallen. The marine was buried at the Fedorivske Cemetery in his hometown. Ilya is survived by his mother Natalia, father Vadym, and sister Anastasia.
