Ivan A. Sokol (Sokol)

Junior Sergeant Ivan Sokol was killed on May 24, 2023, while performing his official duties in the Avdiivka area of Donetsk region. While repelling an enemy assault, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of shelling. The defender was 44 years old. Ivan was born in the village of Chornyzh, Volyn region. He graduated from a vocational school in the settlement of Kolky, where he obtained the profession of tractor driver and driver. He was married. He lived with his family in the village of Mateiky, Volyn. In civilian life, he was a construction worker, working in a private company that produced outdoor stairs. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the man fought for his native country in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after General-Ensign Marko Bezruchko. He held the position of gunner of the mechanized platoon. "Eternal memory to the Hero. His soul will be in paradise, for he gave his life for us. We mourn, we cry together with the closest people and bow low to the ground to our soldier. Let us not forget, people, at what cost we are going to victory," wrote the deceased's fellow villagers. Ivan was buried in the village of Mateiky, Volyn. At home, his wife and two sons were waiting for him.
