- 44-year-old junior sergeant Ivan Nastunchyn was killed on May 1, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of New York in the Donetsk region. The fighter received a fatal shrapnel wound to the neck during an enemy artillery attack on the positions of the Ukrainian military. The defender did not even have a month of service after being called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ivan was born in the village of Pchany, Lviv region. He graduated from the local secondary school. He served in the airborne troops. In 1996, he was part of a peacekeeping battalion in Yugoslavia. Later, he returned home. He worked as a construction worker. He got married and raised two children. During the full-scale war, on April 6, 2023, the man was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ivan became a fighter of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo. He held the position of combat vehicle commander. On April 24, he was in the positions of the Donetsk region. And a week later, he was killed. "Ivan was a kind and sensitive person. More than 100 fellow villagers who remember him as a good and unselfish person attended the funeral," said the deceased's nephew Andriy. "The fact that Ivan Nastunchyn was a warrior speaks volumes. When Ivan was a few years old, he lost his father. It was difficult for the family to overcome this loss... When it was necessary to go and defend the Ukrainian land from the Russian occupiers, Ivan took up arms and stood side by side with his comrades-in-arms. He raised his children well. His son Maksym also serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He remains a reliable support for his mother and will continue his father's work," noted the Zhydachiv City Council. Ivan was buried in his native village. He is survived by his mother Hanna, wife Iryna, son Maksym, daughter Adriana, three sisters, two brothers, relatives and friends.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
