Ivan Yu. Shevchenko (KOP)

Police Captain Ivan Shevchenko (call sign Cop) was killed on August 21, 2023, during a firefight with the enemy near the village of Klishchiyivka in the Donetsk region. The officer was 32 years old. Ivan was from the village of Podibna in the Cherkasy region. He graduated from the Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov. He loved fishing and hunting. In 2014-2018, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation in the ranks of the Special Purpose Police Patrol Battalion "Storm". Since 2018, he has been an inspector in the Patrol Police Response Sector No. 3 of the Biliaivka Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region. In November 2020, he was transferred to the Mankivka Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Cherkasy region, where he worked as a district officer in the village of Mankivka. In the spring of 2023, the man was transferred to the National Police's Joint Assault Brigade "Fury", with which he went to fight. He held the position of squad inspector of the assault regiment "Tsunami". Throughout his service, the police officer was repeatedly honored with certificates of honor, letters of gratitude, and medals, and posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree and the "Cross of the Brave" distinction. "He was a true hero and patriot of his country, never afraid of difficulties, a loving husband and father, a good son," said the widow of the deceased, Olena. The officer was buried in his native village. Ivan is survived by his parents Yurii and Tetiana, his wife Olena, and his son Tymofii.
