Kostiantyn V. Komendant (Batia)

Sergeant Major Kostyantyn Komendant (call sign Batya) died on May 13, 2022, in a hospital in Dnipro. Thirteen days prior, the soldier sustained serious injuries in a battle with the occupiers near the village of Novosilka in Donetsk region. In June, he would have turned 45 years old. Kostyantyn was born in the settlement of Stizhkovske in Donetsk region. He obtained a welding profession at Shakhtarsk Vocational Technical School No. 98. Since 2014, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). He fought in various units. Military service became his main passion. He lived in Khmelnytskyi region. During the full-scale war, he served in the engineering and sapper company of the 48th Engineering Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From the very first days, he continued to defend his homeland from Russian occupiers. He remained faithful to his oath until his last breath. During his service, Kostyantyn was repeatedly recognized by the command with awards. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the 2nd class. "Kostyantyn was a true Hero. From the first days of the war, back in 2014, he stood up to defend the Motherland. The best son, the best father, the best brother, friend, comrade, and simply a very good, cheerful, kind person," said the mother of the fallen, Svitlana. The defender was buried in the village of Liplyave in Cherkasy region. Kostyantyn is survived by his mother, sister, daughter, and son.
