- Lieutenant Lyubomyr Savchuk was killed in action on May 9, 2022, near the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region. While performing a combat mission, the defender came under enemy artillery fire. The officer was 32 years old. Lyubomyr was born in the village of Novyi Yarychiv in the Lviv region. He graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. For the last three years, he worked as an investigator in the territorial office of the State Bureau of Investigation in the Lviv region. In his free time, he loved playing football and was a goalkeeper for the team "Inconito." He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Donbas. During the full-scale Russian invasion, Lyubomyr rejoined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend Ukraine. He commanded a platoon in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel. Together with his unit, he destroyed occupiers in the Luhansk region. "I want the memory of Lyubomyr to live forever. He deserves it. Lyubomyr was cheerful, intelligent, knowledgeable, simple, sincere, and responsible. Always ready to help and support. A loving son, brother, grandson, husband, and father. Lyubomyr was passionate about football—his collection included many sports trophies. He was the best goalkeeper among the teams of the State Bureau of Investigation. When the war broke out in 2014, he voluntarily went to the front, promising to return if needed to defend. Lyubomyr kept his word like a true warrior. 'I am going to fight for the future of Ukraine. Because how else can I look my children in the eyes? What will I say when they ask, where were you when Russia attacked Ukraine?'—this is how Lyubomyr spoke to his friends and colleagues. May the memory of those who laid down their lives on the altar of the struggle for Ukraine's independence live forever," said the sister of the fallen, Anna. "Thank you for defending your native land without sparing yourself. Eternal memory and glory! Condolences to relatives and close ones for the irreparable loss..." wrote colleague Yulia Shevchenko. The officer was buried in his native village. Lyubomyr is survived by his wife, daughter, parents, and loving family. Posthumously, Lieutenant Lyubomyr Savchuk was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the third degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
