- Military serviceman Maxim Vashchuk was killed on March 31, 2022, during an artillery shelling near the city of Popasna, defending his native Luhansk region from Russian occupiers. Maxim was born and raised in Lysychansk, Luhansk region. He graduated from school and a technical college there. He was involved in sports, particularly boxing, and was a vocalist in a rock band. Principled, resolute, sincere, he had many friends and was a patriot. When the Russo-Ukrainian war began in 2014, he could not remain indifferent. In 2015, he joined the military law enforcement service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He built a successful career, being repeatedly awarded by the command for professionalism and responsible performance of his duties. Maxim was married and raised two children. He always sang them Ukrainian songs instead of lullabies, as he himself knew the Ukrainian language well. With the onset of the full-scale war, he did not hesitate to stand up to defend his homeland. He believed in victory until the very end. "Principled, decisive, brave, positive, kind. A personality. A patriot. A friend. In 2009, in Lysychansk, the Trident badge on his sweater, the Ukrainian language, a constructive and sincere conversation allowed me to better understand that wherever I was, in Lviv or Luhansk, I was home. Maxim Vashchuk heroically in Popasna, defending his homeland. Our Ukraine—from Lviv to Luhansk. Thank you for everything, I will not forget!" wrote his friend Vera Didukh. "Max... I can't believe it... Who will now greet me with 'Glory to Ukraine!' in our Sievierodonetsk?! Max... Who will drill all the drunks, from soldiers to colonels?! Max, you always did everything by the book. You are real," wrote his friend Zhanna Skoryk. Maxim is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
