Maksym V. Shumak

Born on October 2, 1991, in the city of Tokmak, Zaporizhia region. Graduated from the general education school in the city of Tokmak. On July 7, 2015, mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Tokmak Combined City Military Commissariat of Zaporizhia region. Served in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit V0927, cities of Sievierodonetsk/Lysychansk, Luhansk region). Participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On August 12, 2016, around 23:40, during an artillery and mortar shelling of the positions of Ukrainian troops under the residential area of Maiorsk (northern outskirts of the city of Horlivka, Donetsk region), soldier Shumak received a severe shrapnel wound to the chest. The serviceman was taken to a hospital in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region, where he died from his injuries around 3 a.m. on August 13, 2016. Buried on August 17, 2016, in the city cemetery of Tokmak.
