- Senior Sergeant Marat Birman (call sign Monya) died on November 9, 2023 near the village of Ivanivske in the Kharkiv region. The defender was 48 years old. Marat was from the city of Berdychiv in the Zhytomyr region. He obtained a secondary specialized education. In civilian life, he worked as a sales operator. He was interested in mine clearance and motorcycles. Marat lived with his family in Bakhmut. Since February 2015, he has been participating in the war in eastern Ukraine. When the full-scale invasion began, he continued to defend the Motherland. He took part in battles in Popasna, Debaltseve, Luhansk, Svitlodarsk, Bakhmut, Siversk, Soledar and Kupiansk. He was a sergeant of material support in the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade. Marat was awarded the Order of the President of Ukraine "For Participation in the ATO" (2016), the "Svitlodarsk Arc" medal (2018), the "For Courage" medal (2019), the jubilee medal "30 Years of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" (2021) and the honorary award "Cross of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade". "He remained faithful to his comrades, the people, and the military oath. I am proud of my husband, his parents are proud of their son, his courage, and his strength of spirit. Not everyone can, looking death in the eye, stand with their comrades, not fearing for their lives, save others and bravely fight for the freedom of their country," said his wife Tetyana Birman.
