- Senior soldier Maryan Holovaty was killed on January 18, 2023, near a settlement in Donetsk region. During the execution of a combat mission, the soldier came under enemy artillery fire. He was 33 years old. Maryan was born in the village of Styboryvka, Lviv region. He studied at Secondary School No. 97 in Lviv. Then he graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in "Environmental Management." While he was a postgraduate student at the Department of Rational Use of Natural Resources and Nature Protection, he researched balneological resorts in the Lviv region. In 2016, he defended his dissertation and became a Candidate of Geographical Sciences. With the beginning of the full-scale war, Maryan joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He was a rifleman-grenadier. "He always had a rational and well-reasoned opinion about everything. He approached everything with a balanced and scientific approach, did not tolerate ignorance, and operated with facts. If he didn't know something, he would say: ‘I'm not an expert in this, but there are such and such expert opinions.' He was always consistent, meticulous, had a phenomenal ability to systematize both things and information. He had a plan for everything. For education, career, family. He loved the mountains. He was passionate about music, began to learn to play the keyboard. Collected a collection of coins and books. Participated in the public life of the city, was one of the ideological inspirers and founders of the NGO ‘Borets.' He clearly knew what he wanted to do, how to make dreams come true, and how much effort had to be made. In addition to what he WANTED to do, he also clearly knew what he HAD to do. So with the first reports of a possible full-scale invasion, he began to pack his backpack, which remained after demobilization in 2016, because he knew that the Homeland would call and he had to be ready. He sincerely believed in Ukraine and fought for Her, giving the most precious thing," — said the fallen soldier's brother, Volodymyr. The defender was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. Maryan is survived by his parents, brother, and niece.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
