Murat R. Umarov

56-year-old serviceman Murat Umarov was killed on May 10, 2022, during enemy shelling near Marinka in the Donetsk region. Murat lived in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. He worked at the wholesale base "Diad," holding the position of a driver at the Kramatorsk slag quarry. When the full-scale war began, he was mobilized into the ranks of the 54th Independent Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa. He immediately went to the front lines in the Donetsk region. He did not share details with his family. On May 9, he last called his wife Alla. "He apologized for waking me up, asked how we were. I asked how he was. He replied that he was fine. We always talked for 2 or 3 minutes. He regretted that he couldn't reach our son. He sent greetings to everyone and said he loved us," Alla told reporters. The next day, the defender was killed. The occupiers attacked the positions of Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Novomykhailivka. There was an airstrike first, and then the tanks began to fire. Murat's body could only be retrieved after 2.5 months. The serviceman was buried at the Alley of Glory in the city of Dnipro. Murat is survived by his wife, two children, and two granddaughters.
