Mykhailo Z. Hamkalo

Gamkalo Mykhaylo Zenonovych was born on November 11, 1976 in Lviv. In 1998, he graduated from Ivan Franko Lviv State University, receiving a degree in geography and soil science. From 1998 to 2001, he was a postgraduate student at the Department of Soil Geography of Lviv University. In 2002, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic "Acid-base buffering of soils in the Chornohora massif of the Ukrainian Carpathians". Since 2002, he held the position of research fellow at the Department of Soil Science and Soil Geography. From 2003, he held the position of assistant, and from 2004 - the position of associate professor at the Department of Tourism of Ivan Franko Lviv National University. He also taught at Lviv National University of Life Sciences and Environment and Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. On February 28, 2022, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the commander of a mechanized platoon of the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. He was killed on August 18, 2022 during enemy artillery and mortar shelling in the village of Blahodatne, Mykolaiv region. On August 24, 2022, he was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
