- Soldier Mykola Hyrenko was killed in action on April 7, 2022, in battles with occupiers near the town of Popasna in Luhansk region. The warrior was 31 years old. Mykola was born in the village of Oleksiivka, Chernivtsi region. He stu and lived in the town of Sokyriany. At the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, he defended Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He participated in combat operations in Donbas. During the full-scale invasion of Russian occupiers, Mykola defended his homeland as part of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He was a commander of a combat vehicle, a crew member of a grenade launcher platoon. "Always smiling, he had his own answers to all questions, had his own life position and strictly adhered to it. He never stood aside from problems. Mykola is a patriot and an example of a true hero. A young man of a wonderful soul, open and kind heart, has left life. There are no words to convey the sadness and pain of an irreplaceable loss," said the Sokyriany City Council. "Eternal memory to you, my brother. I miss you very much," wrote Nadia Melnychuk.
