Mykola I. Somyk (Som)

Senior Soldier Mykola Somyk (call sign Som) was killed on December 27, 2022 in a battle with the occupants near the village of Bakhmutske in Donetsk region. On December 19, the defender turned 51 years old. Mykola was born in Ivano-Frankivsk. He lived with his parents in Novoyavorivsk, Lviv region. He studied in the sports class of Novoyavorivsk Secondary School No. 2. In 1990, he graduated from Lviv Vocational School No. 29, where he obtained the specialty of a CNC machine operator. After getting married, he lived with his family in the village of Kamenye, Lviv region. He participated in the ATO in Donbas. During the full-scale invasion, the man fought for Ukraine as part of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a gunner-operator. He took part in battles for the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. "He was an honest, decent and determined person. He was always ready to come to the aid of those in need. He was a Hero, a Man of Honor and Dignity, a Fearless Warrior," said the deceased's daughter Viktoria. The serviceman was buried in the village of Kamenye, Lviv region. Mykola is survived by his mother, wife, son with daughter-in-law, daughter and granddaughter.
