Mykola O. Kalashnyk

Born on April 29, 1989, in the city of Cherkasy. Graduated from a general education school, in 2007 - Cherkasy Professional Lyceum with a specialty in "Operator of electronic computing machines, locksmith-assembler of radio-electronic equipment and devices, adjuster of technological equipment." Since 2011, he served under contract in the 72nd Separate Guards Mechanized Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A2167, city of Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region). From spring-summer 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On July 12, 2014, Russian-terrorist groups shelled the checkpoint of Ukrainian troops near the village of Chervona Zorya in the Shakhtarsk district of Donetsk region with mortars twice. During the shelling, one of the shells hit a self-propelled artillery unit 2S3 "Akatsiya," where senior soldier Kalashnik was inside. After that, soldier Bilorus rushed to help his comrade, but as a result of the detonation of the ammunition, both servicemen were killed. On July 16, 2014, he was buried at the 4th city cemetery in Cherkasy. On February 22, 2016, by the order of the mayor of Cherkasy, Rosa Luxemburg Lane was renamed to Mykola Kalashnik Lane. On October 11, 2016, a memorial plaque was unveiled in the city of Cherkasy on the facade of the Cherkasy Professional Lyceum (13 Oleksiy Panchenko Street), where Mykola Kalashnik studied.
