- Senior soldier Mykola Dem'yanshenko (call sign Dyoma) was killed on May 8, 2022, during a mortar shelling near the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region. The defender was 25 years old. Mykola was born in the city of Romny in the Sumy region. He graduated from the Romny Vocational College of the Sumy National Agrarian University with a degree in "Banking." After his studies, he decided to dedicate his life to military service, and therefore joined the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine. During the full-scale war, Mykola defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers as part of the 11th Separate Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine. He served as a communications specialist. "And again sorrow, and again despair, and again the young hero of Romny, a graduate of the Romny Vocational College of SNAU, my group student Mykola Dem'yanshenko has plunged into the blessed eternal whirlpool. It is hard to believe, but… on May 8 near Popasna, he was killed while covering the retreat of his comrades and defending the independence of Ukraine, which he loved above all else..." wrote on the college's page. "My beloved, the best man and would have been the best father. I love you so much, my Heart," noted his wife Anastasia. The defender was buried in his hometown of Romny.
